The only thing you
ever gave me, besides the
figurative noose
your deft fingers slid around
my neck, was a broken heart.
Tanka is a Japanese poetry type of five lines, the first and third composed of five syllables and the rest of seven. Tanka is the oldest type of poetry in Japan.
I usually just find myself free forming, simply because I enjoy that style, but I kind of wanted to give this style a try. I hope, at least, that I didn't butcher it too badly. I stuck to the 5-7-5-7-7 criteria, so I mean? Hopefully I didn't do it wrong. LOL.
Writing this was pretty neat, though. I kind of like the short style of this. A lot, actually!

Cool! It's like another version of the haiku! Or shall I say, the haiku is another version of the tanka, because the tanka came first, ahah. XD

You're a pro with short pieces, honestly.
